Ad nauseam – 27th November 2013
I am back! Why? Because I am a concerned citizen of Malaysia. Too many things have happened in this country since the last elections that I just could not keep quite. I am very busy with my work now, so I have decided to dedicate 1 hour per week to write.
I am working for a foreign company that don’t even have an office in Malaysia other than a subsidiary’s office. But I have no plan to move overseas, as I love this country. I spent 5 years in the United Kingdom and I love the place that I still call my “kampong”. But I will never leave this country. I was born here and I will die here.
Too many things are pissing me off. But if I am to write about everything I will end up spending the whole week writing. So I am just going to focus on the things that I feel the most important to me.
First, the decision by the police to arrest habitual traffic offenders. YES, ARREST ALL OF THEM!!! I have written before about the fact that 4.7 million traffic summonses are issue every year, and ONLY 40% EVER GETS PAID!!! Imagine that, 4.7 million summonses per year! Just take an average of RM150 per summon, that’s RM705 million in summons per year! I do not know what the police budget is, but I am very sure that RM705 million will go a long way to paying the salary of the police force.
A few years ago, a bunch of us went to the Bukit Aman to propose a new system to issue summons and to collect summons. The cost to maintain the system is about RM8 million per year, and we were willing to do it on a PFI (Private Funding Initiative) basis. That means the police do not pay us anything until they collect the summons. A very risky venture for us, but we had the backing of a listed company. Until today we have not gotten the go ahead! Why? Probably because we did not offer to “grease the palm of the police”!
The other day I was stuck in a jam near Subang Airport because the police had a roadblock checking for traffic offenders. I was so pissed off that I even signalled with my hand to the policeman that he had no brains! He did not dare stop me as I was in my big car! But after I got over my anger, I was happy that they did that. I cannot say that I have never broken traffic rules. I have, many times, but every time I get an e-mail notice from MyEG, I pay immediately! How many people do that?
But as we all know the police force is not exactly the brightest of people. Today they decided to ask all owners of paintball and airsoft guns to surrender their guns to the police. Of course paintball enthusiasts are crying foul! They have asked the police to register the owners instead, because these enthusiasts have brains unlike the police force!
What is happening to this country? The police are so proud of the fact that they have brought many gangs down. So what!!! Just the other day, a colleague told me that his wife’s car was broken in while she stopped at a traffic light near Mont Kiara. I told him that happens almost every day!!! Need I say more! Idris Jala can talk about statistics, how the crime rate has fallen down, blah blah blah…
But perception is reality!!! Get that you stupid Shell-trained wanker!
Are the politicians at fault? Yes and No!!! Who elected them? YOU!!!! I did not vote in the last elections!
Politicians are all crooks! We all know that!! But you still vote the crooks!
Now even PKR Supreme “Arse Loving” Leader is criticising his own Chief Minister of Selangor! Why? Because he has been such a good CEO of the state of Selangor that he has a RM3 billion surplus! Yes, he is a good CEO. Trained by the very best, the late Tun Ismail Ali. My first job was with a PNB company when the late Tun was the chairman. We all shivered when we bumped into him in the lift! But a good CEO does not only make sure the company does well, but all stakeholders are happy. And in this case the stakeholders also include the “rakyat” of Selangor, the state that contribute 15% of the country’s GDP! So happy now everyone, that you have re-elected PKR to run Selangor? Serve all of you right!
To the Tan Sri, he’s probably thinking, hic manebimus optime.
And in Kelantan, the PAS government is going to implement Hudud! And their partners in Pakatan Rakyat are crying foul! And remember what Karpal Singh once said, “over my dead body!” Well, The Honourable Karpal Singh may find out soon, that’s exactly what will happen. PAS will do it over your dead body!!! I have never liked this guy. A man of principle my foot! Eat my golf ball!!! And since I have not played golf for over a year, I have plenty of golf balls! He was the first person to bring up the issue of Mat Bontot’s nocturnal activities in parliament! And when Mat Bontot was charged, he was the lead counsel! Eat my golf ball!!!
And the spying by the CIA on Malaysia, and Singapore assisting them? Hello!!!! This is nothing new. Everybody knew about this years ago!!! But then there was no Edward Snowden! How did they find out about Mat Bontot??? It was the CIA who told the Inspector General of Police, Tun Haniff Omar about Mat Bontot’s activities. And when the good IGP told Mahathir, Mahathir told him off. He had to retire!!!
Now, we are demanding answers from Singapore??? Hello, Singapore is the poodle of the United States of America. So is Australia!
“You do not spy on friends”. Are you delusional!!!
So folks, enough for today, though I only spent 30 minutes. I do not want to get a heart attack. Since I started work, I have been diagnosed with hypertension. Man, working again is stressful. Especially when most of your colleagues are not in this country and you can only talk to them at night. And I have to raise Euro 10 million before we list on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. I am working with some of the brightest entrepreneur but also the most naïve!
De lege lata – 13th December 2013
Well, it looks like instead of this being the season for giving, it has now become the season of taking.
First, City Hall Kuala Lumpur wanted to raise assessment rates, then the government of the state of Selangor wants to increase the salaries of the Chief Minister and state assemblymen, then the Land Transport Commission wants to increase LRT fares, and then the government of the state of Penang which has a Chief Minister who is beyond criticism (and even considered a deity by some supporters) wants to charge another 2% fee for land transfers, even though the National Land Code says the fee is 0.1%. The biggest mafia in Penang has decided that Penang is bigger than Malaysia!! Well, done Pakatan Rakyat!!! YOU ARE NO DIFFERENT THAN BARISAN NASIONAL!!! You have now joined the ranks of the crooked and “couldn’t care less about the “rakyat” political gang!!! WOO HOO!!!
This is the very same Chief Minister who wants to build a tunnel to Penang from the mainland. The contract is awarded to a consortium consisting of a China construction company. To show how good Chinese infrastructure construction companies are, just read the quip from China, “Xinhua news agency said it was at least the sixth major bridge collapse across the country since July last year - fuelling fears over the safety of China's fast-expanding infrastructure.” I supposed an undersea tunnel is easier to build, since there are no pylons. So how can a tunnel collapse?? Yup, the tunnel is definitely going to be very safe! Below is the photo of a worker that will be digging the tunnel. Don’t worry, he is an expert in digging, and comes very cheap. So the total cost will be much cheaper than if the tunnel is to be built by the BN government.
And yes, who cares about the law! When the Chief Minister of Penang himself doesn’t care, why should the rest of the population? No wonder there are three million (!!!) motorists without valid driving licence in the country, according to the Road Transport Department (RTD). I have been wanting to take the motorcycle riding (Full B) licence, as I am not in mid-life crisis and wants to start zooming around KL in a huge bike, preferably the one with three wheels (as I don’t want to lose balance at the traffic lights and face the ignominy of having other motorists help me get back on my feet). I had seen it happen to one of my mentors many years ago when he started riding big bikes. What an embarrassment!
Across the causeway, we heard how one drunk Indian national migrant worker got hit by a reversing bus and a riot started. Sounds normal, isn’t it? The drunk Indian national migrant worker part, that is. And I was in Singapore on Wednesday, and it looked like the riot never happened!
Apparently, my very reliable Singapore source informed me that the Singapore Police interviewed 2,000 Indian migrant worker in 2 days, and finally charged 24 people on the third day!!! Talk about efficient policing!!! Hmmmm, now how many people did the Malaysian Police interviewed during the “Bersih 2” riot? Probably 5 in 5 days!!! I think we need to send the police interrogators to Singapore to learn about interrogating technics!
Talking about transport, Japanese firms are apparently eyeing the KL-Singapore rail link, according to the husband of the Empress Dowager. Now that I like! After all, the Japs have built the Shinkasen (Bullet trains). My only worry is that the Empress Dowager could be appointed the Project Director of the whole project!
Talking about projects, about 11 years ago when I was running the depository, I had come up with a paper on turning the Central Depository System (CDS) into an e-CDS, where statements would be produced electronically instead of printing them. At the time, the paper cost for the depository alone was about RM5 million a year. A few days back, the depository finally introduced e-statement. Wow, 11 years to implement my simple idea!!! Way to go!!! Was I ahead of time? A big no, as I had used Maybank2U as a model!
Natale hilare et annum faustum – 25th December 2013
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone.
As some may have noticed, I had missed my Friday mailing last week.
I am down with bronchitis again. That’s what happened when you abuse your body, i.e. smoking again!!!
I had “largely” stopped smoking after my last bout of bronchitis, but the new job really messed up my life. I have lost a good 7 to 8 kg since I started working, has hypertension and now bronchitis. God certainly has a good way of trying to slow me down.
This is the most exciting company I have worked for in my 24 year career, but also the most challenging. I am working with one of the smartest entrepreneur I have ever met, but at the same time I am also working with the biggest idiot I have ever met in my life. The entrepreneur is not an issue at all, but one of my CEOs (we have a few subsidiaries), is an American. Enough said right!!! An American, no one is more idiotic as an American!!!
“I'm not sure if you can blame everything on the American way of life, but the United States are big. So, if you have a lot of people there, the percentage of stupid people is bound to be higher.” -Stephen Malkmus
“If ignorance paid dividends most Americans could make a fortune out of what they don't know about economics.” - Luther H Hodges
“I have long known that it is part of God's plan for me to spend a little time with each of the most stupid people on earth.” -Bill Bryson
The last quote is very much what I feel. Cest la vie!
We deal with a lot of stupid people every day. Sometimes it is the real test of our character how we deal with them. I am very poor when it comes to dealing with stupid people, because to me these people are an insult to God for giving them brains!!!
Our country is run by stupid people, our politicians (on both political divide) are morons, who clearly border on stupidity when decisions are made. And the rests of you keep electing these stupid people!!! We just can’t live without stupid people, can we???
So, now while the rests of us are struggling to make a living and trying to make sense of where we are heading next year, the Empress Dowager and her sex slave have gone to the holy land to seek divine guidance. And what was she wearing? A “yellow telekung”!!!! What the ****???? Who the hell does she think she is??? I am not a religious expert? But aren’t we all (Muslims) supposed to be in white “ihram” when we are performing the haj or the minor haj??? Like I said I am no religious experts. But from what I know, as a Muslim we have to be in state of “Miqat” when we are in the presence of God. Looking like a fat bumblebee certainly would not be my idea of purity!!!
This must be the Empress Dowager’s second trip in less than a year!!!
As a very rich and prominent friend of mine once said to me, “I go to umrah at least once a year, because I know I have committed so many sins during the year!” And I must say from the look of his wealth, God has certainly been very forgiving with him! But the difference is, he isn’t corrupt, he doesn’t run any illegal business, he certainly did not buy a USD21 million diamond ring for his wife, nor did he blow anyone up with C4. He is an honest businessman, but with some small vices!!! Hey, we are all human, we have flaws!!
Christmas is a day to count our blessings. To those who is still clueless, Christmas is not the birthday of Jesus! In fact no one can point with certainty when Jesus was born. Christmas celebration started as a Roman pagans’ celebration call Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the weeklong celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman.
Urggg!!! Nasty, isn’t it?
In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it. Christian leaders succeeded in converting to Christianity large numbers of pagans by promising them that they could continue to celebrate the Saturnalia as Christians. The problem was that there was nothing intrinsically Christian about Saturnalia. To remedy this, these Christian leaders named Saturnalia’s concluding day, December 25th, to be Jesus’ birthday.
So while the whole world is slowly crumbling, from the bombs in Southern Thailand and Egypt, the typhoon in the Philippines, the floods in the East Coast, let us all pray that 2014 will not be a disaster year that we are all being made to believe.
